Valentine Hearts

Yesterday was Valentine's Day.

I made these cards for my family.

The idea came from Pinterest.

Pot o' Love

This pretty bowl was giving to me by Jodie for my birthday. It has a nice story.

Students in art classes sometimes abandon their projects before they're completed. Rather than trashing them, professional artists adopt them, finish them, mark them, and then sell them at the "Lonesome Pottery Sale."

The proceeds go toward purchasing new art materials for the school.

And lucky people, like me, get to have beautiful art to display at home. I love the subtle colors and, of course, the heart shape.

Personalized Mug

When Jodie was visiting at Thanksgiving, we took some time to do this craft.

Take a plain ceramic mug.

Create a design on it using permanent markers.

Bake for 30 minutes in a pre-heated 350 degree oven.

Jodie made a special set for a Secret Santa project.

We found the idea on Pinterest, who got it from the Home Made Simple website.

What a Bunch of Waffle

I had breakfast at Denny's the other day. My usual. A waffle and some bacon.
One little bit on the edge of my waffle was black - and heart-shaped!

It's just a tiny thing.

Under bright light, it showed a variety of color and texture.

Then I played with my 60mm macro lens and a +8mm extension tube to get in real close.

Amazing, huh?
I need to learn to use my tools better so avoid the blur.
But I can tell ...
This is going to be FUN!

The Dark Heart

Who lurks beneath that dark brow?

He of the black heart

Harry Potter's nemesis

Professor Snape!

Snape. Snape. Severus Snape.

Ah, but he did have a secret, didn't he!

Not quite so heartless as he seemed

Birds on a Wire

Every year, I make an ornament for each member of our family.

This year, cardinals made from 10 fabric yo-yos, some felt and beads.

I love how each has a distinct personality,

just as each of us has a distinct personality.

And mine?

Has a heart, of course.

These ornaments are made using Mary Maxim's kit #17055

Jingle Bulbs

Is it a family of ornaments - or ornaments for the family?

For this holiday challenge, I dressed up some plain ol' plastic bulb ornaments using puff paint.
This project was so fun that I made one for each of us!

Of course I did polka dots for mine! I didn't have any red puff paint, so I used yellow instead.
I like how the polka dots are tight together on the top and bottom and stretch out toward this middle.

I did a holiday twist on Julie's nature theme by decorating her ornament with a Christmas tree --
complete with shiny lights and a star on top.

Since the ornaments started out silver, I chose blue and black to represent Jeanne's shades. The ornament reminded me of the night sky, which I know Jeanne loves very much, so I added in some constellations.

And Mom's ornament has some very happy cascading hearts!

I'll be sending Mom, Jeanne, and Julie their ornaments very soon. I'm excited to see how they look on their tree!
